Jamuna Murali is an accomplished singer of Hindustani classical and light classical music. She was introduced to the art of Carnatic music for a brief period early in her childhood. Later, Jamuna developed keen interest in the Hindustani style, and learnt under the tutelage of two great musicians Ubhaya Gana Vidushi Shyamala G Bhave, and Pandit Shri Parameshwar Hegde.
Her mellifluous voice, coupled with her ability to bring out the emotions of the lyrics, is the signature of her music. One of her cherished accomplishments was in the composing and singing of the Bhagavad Gita in Hindustani Classical style. Chinmaya Mission Houston has released these musical chanting CDs as "The Song Devine".
Jamuna is a volunteer teacher of music and orchestra at the Chinmaya Mission Houston. She has composed many bhajans and music for spiritual plays involving children. The Arya bhatta Cultural Organization for literature, music, and dance of Bangalore has given her an award in recognition of her contributions to Indian music abroad, and for her services in training young children.
