According to the Janam Sakhis, Guru Nanak Dev Ji accompanied by Bhai Mardana Ji, stopped near the temple of Jagannath, which is dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu. Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Mardana Ji stopped near the shrine upon which sat centuries of history mute and immobilized. The notes from Bhai Mardana’s Rabaab (rebeck) touched the devotees’ hearts with fresh fervor. Several of them came to hear the Guru’s word. The temple priests felt angry and held the Guru Ji guilty for not making adoration to the deity within the sacred enclosure. The local chief whose name has been described, as Krishan Lal one day visited the Guru and invited him to join the aarti, or the evening service of lights, in the temple. The Guru readily offered to go with him.
As dusk fell, the priests lighted the lamps and sumptuous ritual for which the devotees had been waiting began. Twinkling lights fed by ghee were placed on a jewel studded salver, amid flowers and incense, and worship fully swung from side to side by the priest in front of the enshrined image to the accompaniment of the chanting of hymns, blowing of conchs and the ringing of bells. The priests had a complaint as they concluded. The Guru had remained seated in his place and not participated in the ceremony. The Guru burst into a divine song:
The sky is the salver And the sun and the moon the lamps. The luminous stars on the heavens are the pearls. Scented air from the sandal-clad hills is the incense, The winds make the fan for Thee, And the vast forests wreath of flowers. The unstruck music of creation is the trumpet. Thus goes on the Arati (adoration) for Thee, O’ Thou dispeller of doubt and fear!
Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught the listeners, how Nature’s tribute to the Creator was superior to any ritualistic oblation offered before images.

Bhama Kalapam and Lekha - Kuchipudi recital by Smt. Shobha Korambil
Bhama Kalapam is a traditional opera written by the Father of Kuchipudi himself, Sri Siddhendra Yogi.
Bhama Praveshadaruvu, a salient aspect of the Kalapam, is where the dancer enters as the character and introduces herself to the audience.
Other parts of the Kalapam include Bhama explaining her love lorn state, she writing a letter to her Lord, Rajagopala, and sending the letter to Him through her friend.
Siddhendra Yogi, a doyen of Kuchipudi, lauded as Adi Guru by Kuchipudi dancers, gave life and blood to this dance form in its budding stages. He is the author of ‘Bhama Kalapam’, the jewel of Kuchipudi and he is the one who brought a distinctive style to Kuchipudi. Siddhendra Yogi was an exceptional scholar and artist of the 14th century AD. During the Bhakti Movement between 11th and the 13th century, the dance form of Kuchipudi saw a revolution.
Smt. Shobha Korambil : Kuchipudi Dance Artiste
Shobha was born and brought up in Chennai, the cultural capital of India. She was initiated into dancing at her 10th year of age by her parents and had undergone training in Melattur style of Bharathanatyam from late Guru Sundaram (Disciple of Mridangam Maestro Sri Mangudi Dorairaja Iyer) for 9 years.
Shobha then started her training in Kuchipudi dance form under the direct tutelage of Guru Padma Bhushan Vempati Chinna Satyam in 1990 at the ace Kuchipudi Art Academy, Chennai .
She has participated in several Programmes staged by the Academy and has toured across India and around Globe as a member of her mentor Dr. Vempati's Troupe.
Shobha lives in Chennai, India undergoing advance training, teaching and performing Kuchipudi and also guiding the budding dancers at Sridevi Nrithyalaya an institute run by her sister Sheela Unnikrishnan.

Vempati Chinna Satyam(15 October 1929 – 29 July 2012) was an Indian dancer and a guru of the Kuchipudi dance form.
Chinna Satyam was born in Kuchipudi, Andhra Pradesh. He was taught by Vedantam Lakshmi Narayana Sastry. He then refined his art by learning from Sri Tadepally Perrayya Sastry and later was trained by his elder brother Sri Vempati Pedda Satyamin expressions. As he learnt the nuances of this style of dance, he was successful in popularising the Kuchipudi dance form all over the world. He died of old age related problems at the age of 83 on 29 July 2012
