प्रख्यात पूर्व-आधुनिक शायर, अपने सूफ़ियाना लहजे के लिए प्रसिद्ध। 

मस्ती में फ़रोग़-ए-रुख़-ए-जानाँ नहीं देखा

सुनते हैं बहार आई गुलिस्ताँ नहीं देखा

ज़ाहिद ने मिरा हासिल-ए-ईमाँ नहीं देखा

रुख़ पर तिरी ज़ुल्फ़ों को परेशाँ नहीं देखा

आए थे सभी तरह के जल्वे मिरे आगे

मैं ने मगर ऐ दीदा-ए-हैराँ नहीं देखा

इस तरह ज़माना कभी होता न पुर-आशोब

फ़ित्नों ने तिरा गोशा-ए-दामाँ नहीं देखा

हर हाल में बस पेश-ए-नज़र है वही सूरत

मैं ने कभी रू-ए-शब-ए-हिज्राँ नहीं देखा

कुछ दावा-ए-तमकीं में है माज़ूर भी ज़ाहिद

मस्ती में तुझे चाक-गरेबाँ नहीं देखा

रूदाद-ए-चमन सुनता हूँ इस तरह क़फ़स में

जैसे कभी आँखों से गुलिस्ताँ नहीं देखा

मुझ ख़स्ता ओ महजूर की आँखें हैं तरसती

कब से तुझे ऐ सर्व-ख़िरामाँ नहीं देखा

क्या क्या हुआ हंगाम-ए-जुनून ये नहीं मालूम

कुछ होश जो आया तो गरेबाँ नहीं देखा

शाइस्ता-ए-सोहबत कोई उन में नहीं 'असग़र'

काफ़िर नहीं देखे कि मुसलमाँ नहीं देखा

Us ka mukh ik jot hai ghoonghat hai sansaar

Ghoonghat mein vo chup gaya mukh per aanchal daar(daal)

(This might be pushing it, but this is my exegesis of the couplet.

Her face is like light (guiding light) and the ghoonghat is the world --

symbolizing life and the struggle to find a place in the world.

She hid herself in her veil and covered her face. Meaning the

guiding light is lost/hidden in the world, and it's up to the lover

to find it. How else will he reach his destination?!)

Zaahid ne mera hasil-e-eimaa.n nahin dekha

Rukh per teri zulfon ko pareeshaa.n nahin dekha

(The pious has not seen how I attained my faith.  

He has not seen the lock of hair spreading on your

cheek, in worry. Implying that the pious remains pious,

since he has not fallen in love, if he had seen your beauty

your emotions your face your hair and its beauty in

different emotions, he would not be a worshipper

anymore, he would have become a lover like me,

he would have attained faith, yaqeen,-certainity or

faith is a higher stage than worship)

Her haal mein bus pesh-e-nazar hai vohi soorat

Main ne kabhi roo-e-shab-e-hijraa.n nahin dekha

(In every condition, you are all that I think of, I've never

seen a night of separation, meaning you were always with

me, even if only as my thought, but I was with you)

Aaye thay sabhi tarah ke jalvay meray aagay

Main ne magar aye deeda-e-hairaa.n nahin dekha

(There have been many wonderful sights that have come before

my eyes, but I didn't see any of them that would surprise me.

Implying miracles were happening right and left around me

and infront of me but I was not surprised, what really had

grabbed my attention was your face, nothing else seemed

as important anymore. )

Kiya kiya hua hangaam-e-junoo.n yeh nahin maaloom

Kuch hosh jo aaya to gareebaa.n nahin dekha

(I don't know what chaos has taken place here. All I know is, when

I came to my senses I had not have my collar to look into.

Implying I was so lost in love totally unaware of what was

happening around me, such that when I came back to look at

myself, there was no more of myself, it had annihilated into you )
