Learning Bharatanatyam under the able guidance of Sangeet 
Nataka Akademi awardee, Guru Sri Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry 
for the last 12 years, Sahitya Ramkumar is taking baby steps in the 
performance world. Playing the leading roles in her Guru’s productions 
and giving solos has given Sahitya invaluable experience and learning. 

She is also learning Kuchipudi from her guru who happens to hail 
from the village of Kuchipudi. 

After her arangetram in 2014, Sahitya has been working and creating 
pieces from the repertoire and is fortunate to understand the intricacies 
of the art of choreography from her Guru. Sahitya has completed her 
certificate course in Bharatanatyam with distinction. She is now training 
for diploma. 

In the city, Sahitya likes to perform at Ravindra Bharati, Saptaparni, 
Lamakaan and Shilparamam. She calls for more performance spaces 
with black background, good sound system and lights.

Currently pursuing Chartered Accountancy, Sahitya has also performed 
for Nadaneerajanam, Tirupati. Along with her mother, Sahitya releases 
performance to hit songs on YouTube.  

सन्त भानु दास महाराज 

संत भानुदास का जन्म सन् 1448 ई. के आसपास हुआ। इनके पुत्र का नाम 

चक्रपाणि था। प्रसिद्ध संत एकनाथ इनके पौत्र थे। संत भानुदास ने 94 मराठी 

अभंग रचे। इनकी दो हिंदी रचनाएँ गाथाओं में उपलब्ध हैं। वे कृष्ण को अपना 

भगवान मानते थे इसलिए उन्होंने मथुरा-वृंदावन की यात्राएँ की थीं। इनकी 

भाषा ब्रजभाषा है। 

इनका हिंदी पद निम्नलिखित है- ‘‘जमुना के तट धेनु चरावत राखत है गैयां, 

मोहन मेरो सैयां मोर पत्र सिर छत्र सुहाये गोपी धरत बहियां भानुदास प्रभु भगत 

को बत्सल, करत छत्र छइयां।’’

वृंदावनी वेणु कवणाचा माये वाजे ।
वेणुनादें गोवर्धनु गाजे ॥
पुच्छ पसरूनि मयूर विराजे ।
मज पाहता भासती यादवराजे ॥

तृणचारा चरूं विसरली ।
गाई-व्याघ्र एके ठायीं जाली ।
पक्षीकुळें निवांत राहिलीं ।
वैरभाव समूळ विसरली ॥

वृंदावनी वेणु कवणाचा माये वाजे ।
वेणुनादें गोवर्धनु गाजे ॥

ध्वनी मंजुळ मंजुळ उमटती ।
वांकी रुणझुण रुणझुण वाजती ।
देव विमानीं बैसोनि स्तुती गाती ।
भानुदासा फावली प्रेम-भक्ति ॥

वृंदावनी वेणु कवणाचा माये वाजे ।
वेणुनादें गोवर्धनु गाजे ॥

वृंदावनी वेणू वाजे 
वेणू कवणाचा माये ॥धृ॥

The flute (veNu) makes sound (is being played) in the Vrundavana, 

the venu is like a poem

वेणूनादे गोवर्धन गाजे। 
पुच्छ पसरूनी मयूर विराजे। 
मज पाहता भासती यादवराजे ॥१॥

This sound of veNu (venunade) fillls the whole Govardhana mountain. 
Spreading it's tail, the peacock is dancing. It seems to me as 
Yadava Raje (Krishna) is looking at me.

तृणचारा चरू विसरली । 
गाईव्याघ्र एके ठायी झाली । 
पक्षीकुळे निवांत राहिली । 
वैरभाव समूळ विसरली ॥२॥

Forgetting to graze, the cow and tiger come together.

Birds are relaxed. The feeling of enmity is completely vanished.

यमुनाजळ स्थिरस्थिर वाहे । 
रविमंडळ चालता स्तब्ध होये । 
शेष कूर्म वराह चकीत राहे । 
बाळा स्तन देऊ विसरली माये ॥३॥

The water of Yamuna is flowing slowly (almost stopped). 
The ravimanDala (the planets and stars with sun have 
stopped too. Shesha, Kurma, Varaha are mesmerized. 
The mother forgot to feed her child.

ध्वनी मंजूळ मंजूळ उमटती। 
वाकी रुणझुण रुणझुण वाजती। 
देव विमानी बैसोनि स्तुति गाती।  
भानुदासा पावली प्रेमभक्ति ॥४॥

The sound produced is nothing but sweet. 
The anklets make sound ruNuzuNu. 
The Gods sitting in Vimana are singing praise.
Bhanudasa is blessed with love and devotion (premabhakti).
