Amongst all other birds, one of the most celebrated bird is the Munia. These small-sized but beautiful birds are found in different parts of India. They are brightly colored and have a sweet voice which makes them the most sought-after for caged birds. In this lovely Kabir Bhajan, the Munia bird despite being in the cage for years keeps entertaining and mesmerizing her master and the passers-by with her sweet voice and her charming appearance. This Kabir bhajan is very popular amongst the rural folks of India. ''Muniya pinjre waali Tera Satguru hai byapaari" The owner of the Munia bird says that he is no one in front of the Almighty! The supreme Lord is its master. 'The Kabir Cafe' has beautifully woven rustic words and is aptly set to tune in a folk genre. So this munia bird is a know-all. It is more literate than the traveler, it has certainly traveled more than the traveler, it is not very chic and polished but certainly knows the ways of life. It is well acquainted with the society, the customs. It has seen, observed this society and its ways sitting there in the cage. Satgurus came and decided to enlighten this Munia and channelize its knowledge in the right direction. The cage in which the Munia resides is made of Panch Tatva- fire, air, earth, ether, and water. And one day the Munia breaks free and is set to freedom. The world is unhappy to see it gone. Kabir says that the life of this Munia is a reflection of our lives. The journey of this traveler and the Munia bird is about discovering each other, knowing each other. It also is the decorative, motif of parting their ways. Charming, bewitching, mesmerizing – Lyrical, sensitive, adorable – Caged bird and the traveler! For many of us, our tryst with Sant Kabir was restricted to mugging up his dohas and its meanings in Class 6 or 7. But for Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Café, Kabir is a rockstar! Giving Kabir’s poem a melodious twist — with renditions in jazz, rock, reggae, and folk fusion — the band aims to explore the writings of the renowned poet-saint. The band is a venture where Neeraj (lead vocals and rhythm guitars), Mukund Ramaswamy (violin), Raman Iyer (mandolin), Viren Solanki (percussions), and Poubuanpou Britto KC (bass guitar) strive to present the poetry of Kabir in a musically interesting fashion that instantly connects with the audience.
